I. M. Pei and Museum Architectural Design
This event is for aged 16 and above.
The event ticket will include same-day access to the Special Exhibition I. M. Pei: Life Is Architecture as well as the General Admission exhibitions. Please retain a copy of your ticket to facilitate your entry to the gallery.
When designing a museum, what aspects would an architect consider other than displaying artworks? I. M. Pei believed that museums could bring people, architecture, and the environment together, inspiring many architects to consider the importance of the museum not just as a space for art but also a space for the public.
Led by architectural designer Human Wu, this special tour offers insight into the vision and comprehensive considerations behind Pei’s museum design projects and takes participants to look at the design of the M+ museum building as a point of comparison. The tour begins with a gallery walkthrough of the Special Exhibition I. M. Pei: Life is Architecture, highlighting Pei’s iconic museum projects and followed by an architectural visit of M+. Human will emphasize key aspects of museum design including the innovative structures and materials, the profound reflection on culture and history, and its role as a public space.

About the Architectural Designer
Human Wu is an architectural designer and educator based in Hong Kong. After working at world-renowned architectural firms in New York, Basel, and Hong Kong, he founded his own practice Human Architects. Wu graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and is currently Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture at the University of Hong Kong.
