(25 May Cantonese session─Iris Sham) Jockey Club Community Outreach and Arts Education Programmes:
Photographer-led Tours for ‘Noir & Blanc’
In this series of guided tours, photographers from various fields will be invited to discuss different aspects of black and white photography, including its cultural background, darkroom printing techniques, and its unique qualities as a creative medium.
American photographer Robert Frank once said that a photograph must contain the humanity of the moment as well as vision. Photographer Iris Sham will guide participants in exploring the stories and human qualities behind the works on view and the perspectives of the photographer. We can see how Japanese author Yukio Mishima, in the era of Anpo protests, collaborated with photographers to showcase his aesthetics, as well as his views on life and death. We can also learn about how photographer Liu Heung Shing’s lens redefined conventional perceptions of a closed-off China in the 1980s.
