Meet the Makers:
Off-Site Conversations and Tours—Yuet Tung China Works

This event is for participants aged 16 or above.

The workshop ticket consists of two components: an off-site conversation and a guided tour at M+.

M+ will offer guided visits to the exhibition Making It Matters at designated timeslots. Tour schedule can be found here.

Yuet Tung China Works is the oldest hand-painted porcelain factory in Hong Kong. Previously known as Kam Wah Loong in 1928 in Kowloon City, Yuet Tung has been passed down through four generations, witnessing the history of porcelain. Only Yuet Tung remains in Hong Kong and maintains its porcelain production fired in its own kiln in this day, adopting new techniques in lieu of hand painting for mass production, knowing as ‘Hong Kong ware’.

The conversation will be facilitated by Christine Lee, Curatorial Assistant, Design and Architecture of M+. The English session will be facilitated by Mandy Wong, Curatorial Assistant, Learning and Interpretation of M+.

About the Speakers

Joseph Tso is the third-generation head of Yuet Tung China Works. Growing up in the factory, he oversaw reception to customers. With the help of the Guangcai porcelain masters, he created hundreds of designs combining Eastern and Western elements which have remained popular to this day.
