Jockey Club Community Outreach and Arts Education Programmes:
Family Drop-in—Picasso’s Imagination Playground
The programme is self-guided, free of charge, and no pre-registration required. It is suitable for children of all ages to participate under the guidance of their parents.
Each session is 40 minutes. Participating families can register and collect a token at the entrance 15 minutes before each session begins. Admission is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Under Pablo Picasso's brush, the appearance of figures varies greatly, and his figurative sculptures exhibit proportions that defy conventional norms. Viewers are encouraged to reinterpret their understanding of reality through a playful perspective.
This family drop-in event takes Picasso’s bronze human figure sculpture series The Bathers as a starting point, inviting adults and kids to make sculptures of swimmers using building blocks of all shapes and sizes. Participants can use colour tapes to outline the silhouettes of their family members’ movements on walls and floors. By stacking differently shaped large components, they can create unique human-size installations, mimicking Picasso's sculptural assemblages created from found objects.
The event will coincide with the Special Exhibition The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Picasso for Asia—A Conversation at M+, encouraging adults and children to rediscover this significant artist in ways beyond traditional exhibition viewing. By transforming sources of inspiration found in Picasso's works into a relaxed hands-on experience, participants can learn from Picasso's creative mindset of embracing change, bringing imaginative ideas to life.
