Melt the snow and unveil stories behind the making of Frozen! Join director Jennifer Lee to explore the original concept, creative process, and inspiration for this Academy Award-winning animated film from Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Best known for directing (with Chris Buck) Frozen (2013) and its sequel Frozen 2 (2019), Jennifer Lee is recognised as one of the most influential figures in today’s animation industry. Moderated by film critic Winnie Fu, Lee will share her insights from working on multiple Disney animated films and her initial ideas for Frozen, as well as her perception of the cultural influence of the film. She will also share her thoughts on the importance of leading female characters, and how technological advancements have contributed to storytelling in animation.
The talk is co-presented by M+ and Hong Kong Disneyland. Simultaneous interpretation in Cantonese will be available.

About the Speakers
Jennifer Lee (b. 1971, United States) is a filmmaker and screenwriter. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree in Film from Columbia University School of the Arts. In 2011, Lee joined Walt Disney Animation Studios as the co-writer of Wreck-It Ralph (2012). She later wrote and directed (with Chris Buck) Frozen (2013) and Frozen 2 (2019), two of the highest grossing animated films of all time, with Frozen winning Best Original Song and Best Animated Feature at the 86th Academy Awards.
After becoming the first female director of a Disney animated feature film, she was credited as Creative Leadership on several Disney blockbusters such as Big Hero 6 (2014), Zootopia (2016), and Moana (2016). She was named Chief Creative Officer in 2018 and has been overseeing the creative production of all films, series, shorts, and associated projects at Walt Disney Animation Studios, including Raya and the Last Dragon (2021), Encanto (2021), and the upcoming Wish (2023).
Winnie Fu is an editor, film critic, and curator of exhibition, design, and publishing projects with over 20 years of experience. She was the editor of Frame After Frame—A Retrospective on Hong Kong Animation, which chronicles the development of the local animation industry, published by the Hong Kong Film Archive. She also curated Moving Tales of Hong Kong Animation: Hong Kong Animation Development from 2007 to 2017, an exhibition co-organised by the Hong Kong Heritage Museum and Comix Home Base. In 2017, she founded the cultural and media organisation CoDeCode Limited.
