Cyberfeminism Index:
Lecture Performance and Conversation with Mindy Seu
What is Cyberfeminism? How is it undefined and more inclusive?
Join designer, educator, and researcher Mindy Seu for a Friday night event, Cyberfeminism Index: Lecture Performance and Conversation with Mindy Seu, encompassing a lecture performance, conversation, and book signing of her latest title, Cyberfeminism Index (2022).
Edited by Seu, Cyberfeminism Index is a 608-page encyclopaedic compilation of radical techno-critical activism in various media, including excerpts from academic articles and scholarly texts; descriptions of hackerspaces, digital rights activist groups, and bio-hacktivism; and depictions of feminist net art and new media art.
In her lecture performance, Seu will combine an overhead camera and an AR application built with artist and programmer Tommy Martinez based on Cyberfeminism Index. She flips through and projects the spreads, on which images will trigger the AR overlay of videos. As she reads and jumps pages, the linearity of the narrative is interrupted, and the multiplicity of practices and voices surface. Referencing a hyperlinked online world, the performance shows how myriads of thoughts, critiques, and knowledge are intertwined in an ever-expanding network.
Seu will join a conversation with M+ producer Kate Gu, to unpack references in the lecture performance and expand on ideas about online activism, net art, and digital culture.
The book signing session for Cyberfeminism Index is at the end of the event. The book can be purchased during the event and at the M+ Shop.
This event will be conducted in English with simultaneous interpretation in Cantonese and Mandarin. Click on 'Register' to sign up.
