Children Summer Takeover:
Creative Day Camp

This event is suitable for children aged 6 to 10 and their parents. The first two days are participated by children individually, while on the third day, parents are required to participate with their children.

For more details, please refer to the ‘Participation Requirements’.

The inaugural Children Summer Takeover: Creative Day Camp is themed ‘Experimental Playground’ this year. Through a series of creative and learning experiences, children and adults are invited to gather their imaginations to open up spaces for free play within the museum. The camp adopts an alternative teaching approach, emphasising participants’ autonomy and encouraging everyone to challenge themselves, embarking on a journey of growth.

The first two days of the day camp revolve around two large-scale creative workshops, curated by artist Chankalun and the creative duo Stickyline. Museum workshop spaces are transformed using unconventional materials and spatial design, inviting children to participate and become co-creators of their works. In addition to the workshops, there are also guided tours to understand the museum architecture and group activities to explore the museum galleries, allowing children to engage in imaginative and experimental games with M+ Educators as their guides.

The third day of the day camp is a shared learning experience for parents and children. It encourages each family member to engage in creative expression using different senses and to learn to think like an artist, seeing the world from a different perspective. Families can inspire each other and discover new ways of parent-child interaction. The final showcase of creative outcomes reflects the daring and experimental moments from the camp, inviting adults who are willing to rediscover their childlike spirit to become creative partners for their children.

Event Highlights and Parental Feedback

‘Children participated freely in the activities, their imagination was unleashed, and the concept of “Children Takeover” encouraged them to create and realise their ideas independently. The diversified programme brought them closer to the museum, and the children enjoyed it very much.’ Photo: M+, Hong Kong

‘The most unforgettable part was when the child said, “I will take you to the East and Sigg Galleries, I can be your guide.” My child acted as a guide and confidently led us through the exhibitions, explaining to us the guidance and questions they learned from M+ Educators, engaging us and inquiring about our thoughts. It was a very positive experience!’ Photo: M+, Hong Kong

‘These learnings have transcended mainstream training in artistic skills, extending to observation, connections between people, expressions of love, and so on—details that every artist focuses on and marks the beginning of art learning.’ Photo: M+, Hong Kong

‘Being able to sit on the floor in the museum's exhibition area and engage in creation and sharing is a unique experience. Children could also express their own ideas and interacted with M+ Educators equally, rather than in a one-way teaching format. I highly recommend.’ Photo: M+, Hong Kong

‘The camp respected children’s creativity, encouraged them to collaborate with peers of different personalities, and challenged themselves. The mixed-age arrangements allowed children to empathise with each other that showed the programme design had considered the varying characteristics of children.’ Photo: M+, Hong Kong

‘Being able to treat the museum as a playground, children freely expressed their ideas and searched for intriguing answers with their teammates during the activities. With support and encouragement, they became more confident in their ability to create.’ Photo: M+, Hong Kong

‘It turned out that with very simple materials, children could create with all their hearts. Creativity is everywhere, and the children could dare to try without limiting themselves, experience even more, and connect sensibly with their surroundings.’ Photo: M+, Hong Kong

‘I really appreciate the M+ Educator for fulfilling the children's wish to eat ice cream through a water painting concept. The children found it very fun and magical!’ Photo: M+, Hong Kong

‘Giving children enough space to think, sparking the interesting and beautiful sides of lives.’ Photo: M+, Hong Kong

‘The final day of the camp allowed parents to understand the activities of the children from the previous two days and to participate. It was a very good parent-child interactive experience.’ Photo: M+, Hong Kong

‘The most unforgettable part was the arrangement of the parent-child co-learning experience, the part "Guess Who Your Child Is", was truly touching.’ Photo: M+, Hong Kong

‘I was most satisfied with the part where parents found their children. It made me realise that many of the questions raised by parents resonated with the children, proving that they were not just the passcodes that parents thought they were. It is crucial to establish connections with children.’ Photo: M+, Hong Kong

‘It turned out that children could connect with artworks in such a simple and direct way, thereby inspiring an interest in art. My child enjoyed the creative process more than I imagined, and although his expressions were subtle, M+ Educators were able to discover them. I was very grateful for the Educators' guidance and inspiration.’ Photo: M+, Hong Kong
