Sony 'Walkman' Portable Cassette Player, model TPS-L2索尼「Walkman」便攜式卡式錄音機,TPS-L2型
1979
The Sony Walkman gave us music on the go for the first time. Sony co-founder Ibuka Masaru requested a device for listening to music on the aeroplane. In response, engineer Kuroki Yasuo modified the Sony Pressman handheld recorder to make a playing-only, high-quality music device with headphones. The design and technology allowed for a personal, portable, and immersive listening experience. Launched in 1979, it transformed lifestyles around the world. The Walkman embodied fun and desirability, but also gave individuals the ability to opt out of their surroundings and company.
