A guiding concept in Lin Ke’s practice is that his laptop is his studio. In Like Me, the laptop also becomes a virtual stage where Lin performs for audiences online. The video includes two self-portraits. In one frame, Lin is in a home office interacting with a computer screen. In another, the artist is rapping to a random track from the music streaming site SoundCloud before segueing into a monologue sourced from the sci-fi television show Star Trek. Recontextualising the music and scripts in his performance, Lin reflects on the digital age and addresses contemporary anxieties of a society living through screens.
