'In purity, I silently reach for you.'在純潔裡,我靜靜地追尋你。

This mixed-media installation recreates a public washroom with a white sink, mirrors, a soap holder, an empty toilet-paper holder, and a grey dustbin, among other fixtures and accessories. A chair is placed next to an enclosed stall, which offers privacy in the open washroom. Cardboard paintings featuring logos of skincare brands hang on the pastel blue walls, characteristic of Lee Kit’s use of soft and subdued colours—from hand-painted cloths produced during his early career to his more recent installations. For this work, Lee was inspired by the temporary respite washrooms offer in an urban environment, and the unique position of such spaces between the public and the private. Here, he references ordinary rituals to redefine the experience of daily life. The sparse and carefully arranged objects evoke a sense of constructed and distant intimacy, drawing attention to our relationship with everyday objects. Lee’s preoccupation with cleanliness and consumer products for personal hygiene was a starting point for his cardboard paintings, which also appear in his other installations. While the paintings comment on the market-oriented character of life in Hong Kong, they also reflect an emotional attachment to these products.
