This hanging sculpture, which resembles a large sheet of blank paper, is part of Liu Jianhua’s practice of rendering objects in porcelain. He presents the physical form of the paper, but removes the object’s original function and accentuates the contrasting materiality of porcelain and paper.

Liu Jianhua (born 1962, Ji'an) graduated from Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute in 1989 with a major in sculpture. He is best known for his experimental approach in incorporating porcelain into the shapes and forms of daily objects as a way to reflect on the economic and societal changes in China. Liu lives and works in Shanghai.
