Twemco Industries Limited Ephemera 大驊晶工實業有限公司短期印刷品
Tai Wah Electrical Manufacturing Co. (later renamed Twemco Industries Ltd.) was founded in 1960 by Lau Cho Hung (劉祖洪; 1900–1981) as an electric fan manufacturer. His two sons, Lau Chun-Leung (劉鎮良; born 1939) and Lau Chi-Leung (劉熾良; born 1940), both studied electrical and mechanical engineering at the Hong Kong Technical College (now Hong Kong Polytechnic University) in Hung Hom. In the late 1960s, the company faced fierce competition and diversified its product range by developing clock production. In 1969, the Lau brothers patented their fully automatic flip calendar mechanism and released two electric calendar clocks under the TWEMCO brand (formed by the company's initials) the following year, including models Auto-12 and Auto-20 in 1970. The former was awarded the Federation of Hong Kong Industries Award for Good Design. Over the next few decades, more designs were created for use in homes and offices. TWEMCO clocks are renowned for their high torque movement, with an accuracy of under 0.5 seconds per month, and calendar mechanism that can automatically reset the days of the month, including leap years. In 1982, the company ceased fan production to focus solely on manufacturing automatic calendar clocks and renamed itself Twemco Industries Ltd.
