Photographic materials, Electric House: Kennedy Road Substation (1967–1970), Mid-levels, Hong Kong 香港半山堅尼地道電力變壓站(1967至1970年)影像資料
This series consists of one negative, seven transparencies, and twelve slides for Kennedy Road Substation project. The substation was located at 44 Kennedy Road, along a hillside in Mid-Levels. It was devised by James Hajime Kinoshita and Heinz Rust in 1967, then completed in 1970 and ultimately dismantled in 1990s.
The building was only planned for power transmission in the beginning but was repurposed as the headquarter of Hong Kong Electric during construction. The upper layer functioned as a substation while the lower layer served as office and carpark. The two parabolic hoods on rooftop connected and protected high tension cables from the hills. The horizontal building was supported by two piers and formed a bridge structure that appeared harmoniously with the surrounding.
