Photographic material, Sabah State Mosque (1970–1975), Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia 馬來西亞亞庇沙巴州立清真寺(1970至1975年)影像資料

Architects Team 3 completed the Sabah State Mosque in 1975, with the design led by Baharuddin Abu Kassim. The building occupies a square site south of the centre of Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah, on the northern tip of Borneo.

The mosque takes the form of an elongated hexagon in plan. On its western, qiblah half, a dome covered in six-sided tiles accommodates the main prayer hall; a gold-tipped minaret emerges from the flat roofline on the eastern side. The dome is supported by a series of gently folded concrete supports, whose bends shape the prayer hall’s richly detailed interior. Thick conical columns topped by smaller gold domes line the hexagon’s perimeter. These elements support the roof, which extends beyond the structure to shade a continuous upper-level balcony. A roof cut-out beside the dome defines another open-air exterior area.

This series consists of negatives of plans of the mosque, and two photographs showing the building under construction.
This series is part of the Architects Team 3 projects.
