Lee Chi-wing earned his BA in Industrial Design from The Hong Kong Polytechnic (today Hong Kong Polytechnic University) in 1989 and his MA from ENSCI-Les Ateliers in Paris in 1992. He then worked in for Raison Pure and Habitat in France, and then Philips Design from 1995 until the establishment of Milk Design.
In 1998, Lee established Milk Design, an industrial and product design studio and consultancy based in Hong Kong. Milk Design has collaborated with consumer product brands and organizations in Hong Kong, mainland China, and Taiwan on various projects, including furniture, tableware, electronics, fashion accessories, window displays, and exhibition designs. The studio's specialty is providing simple enhancements to everyday living, inspired by the success of Hong Kong design-entrepreneurs like Dennis Chan and Alan Yip in the 1980s and 1990s. Milk Design launched Feel Good Home, a line of design-led lifestyle accessories, and is best known for the Cathay Pacific Airways in-flight tableware (2007), which was inspired by China's rice-based culture and porcelain typology.
Milk Design Cathay Pacific In-flight Tableware Project Archive consists of materials, sketches and CAD drawings, as well as model and mock-ups in the Cathay Pacific In-flight Tableware Project. As for related material in M+ Collection, a set of design objects can be found: 2021.66.
