Geoffrey Bawa (1919–2003), a native of Colombo, Sri Lanka, stands as a prominent architect in the region, renowned for his impactful contributions to the field. His deep appreciation for the environment is evident in his meticulous approach to spatial design, characterised by the thoughtful arrangement of spaces, the creation of captivating vistas, the integration of courtyards and walkways, and his careful selection of materials and attention to detail. Within this archival collection, a comprehensive documentation of Bawa’s notable projects is housed, including the iconic Batujimbar Estate in Bali, Indonesia (1972–1975), the State Mortgage Bank in Colombo (1976), the distinguished Sri Lankan Parliament in Kotte (1979), a proposal for the Singapore Cloud Centre competition (1988–1989), and a collection of his lecture notes in slide format, offering a glimpse into the creatives of the architect.

The Geoffrey Bawa Project Archives was acquired by M+ in 2023. M+ is committed to the preservation and to the arrangement and description of the Archive to the highest international standards. As sections of the archive are catalogued, they will be made available on the M+ Collections website.
