Ephemera and magazine, Hong Kong American Hotel/Hongkong Hilton 香港美國酒店/香港希爾頓酒店短期印刷品及雜誌
The Hong Kong American Hotel, located on Queen’s Road Central, was renamed the Hongkong Hilton opening in 1963. It was demolished in 1996 to make way for the Cheung Kong Centre. As the city’s largest and first five-star hotel the Hongkong Hilton included shopping arcade, swimming pool, nightclub, restaurants and bars such as Dragon Boat bar, Jade Lotus, The Hilton Coffee shop, and The Eagle's Nest.
Henry Steiner developed the visual identity systems for The Hong Kong American Hotel and Hongkong Hilton in 1963, taking graphic inspiration from Chinese lattice work and I Ching hexagram symbols. This series includes the hotel magazine and magazine cover, menus, and stationery totalling menus, in a total of some 30 objects dating to the 1960s.
