Drawings, Raffles Tower (now Singapore Land Tower) (1979–1981), Downtown Core, Singapore 新加坡市中心萊佛士大廈(現新置地大廈)(1979至1981年)繪圖
This series consists of sixty-nine drawings for Raffles Tower (now Singapore Land Tower) project. The building was constructed from 1979 to 1981. Located at Downtown Core of Singapore, it was one of the tallest skyscrapers in Singapore at the time it was completed.
The tower is situated on the former site of John Little's Building. In 1973, the site was sold to Singapore Land Limited, and the original building was torn down for the construction of a new skyscraper. The drawings, mainly layout plans, show that the preparation of Raffles Tower project started in 1973, titled ‘Singapore Land John Little’ or ‘John Little’. The drawings with more details dated from 1979, which indicates the launch of construction project.
The tower has forty-eight storeys, including three levels of basement as the carpark. The nineteenth and forty-fifth floors are mechanical floors. The landscaping and fountains for the plazas at podium and upper levels marked the uniqueness of this commercial building.
Two architectural firms were involved in the projects. For the sheets drawn by Palmer & Turner (P&T Group), most of them contain title block which shows information as follows: original project title marked as ‘Raffles Tower; For S.L. Development Private Limited’ on Lots Nos. 246¹, 246², 247¹, 247², 255, 256, 257, 258, and 274. T.S. No. 1’, with ONG & ONG as the planning consultant. Ten other sheets were drawn by Pat Pacific Architects with detail as follows: original project title “'J.L. 247' for Singapore Land Limited on Lots Nos. 246¹, 246², 247¹, 247², 255, 256, 257, 258, and 274; T.S.
