Drawings, proposed residence for Wee Ee Chao, Plantation Road, Hong Kong 香港種植道黃一超宅邸方案繪圖

This series consists of 222 drawings of the unbuilt Plantation Road Project in Hong Kong. Commissioned by the businessman Wee Ee Chao, Rudolph designed a triplet of luxury apartments near the hilltop of Victoria Peak.

Within the limited area of the site, it was suggested that the duplexes are arranged above one another, while each of them projecting outwards in different directions so that the residents can enjoy the views from within. Such protruding features of the building would be made possible with pilotis and cantilevered planes. Each unit also has its own swimming pool and terrace garden.

This series consists of construction drawings, plans of the individual duplex and renderings of the residence, and further separated into groups (subseries) according to its original order. Among various groups, the duplexes are designated with different codes: ‘Duplex I / Duplex II / Duplex III’; ‘East House / South House / West House’; and ‘Apartment 1 / Apartment 2 / Apartment 3’ alternately.

A related architectural model (2020.562) can be found in the M+ Collection.
This series is part of the Paul Rudolph Project Archives.
