This series consists of 322 drawings and thirteen transparencies for Jinling Hotel project. The buildings constructed from 1979 to 1983 is located at Xinjiekou district, centre of Nanjing. It was the first architectural project done by Palmer and Turner Group (P&T Group) after its re-entry to the market of Mainland China. The project was initiated by Singapore-based Nanjing-born entrepreneur Tao Shing Pee and designed by James Hajime Kinoshita. It was the first state-approved foreign-invested hotel built in China. It won the Excellence Award of CITAB-CTBUH 2016 Best Tall Building China with Asia Pacific Tower in 2016.
The main building of Jinling Hotel project consists of three parts, a tower and two podiums. They are linked together in the basement, level one and level two (noted that the ‘level one’ in this series refers to ground floor). Most of the hotel facilities are located at these floors, including the function rooms, ball room, gymnasium, etc. The guest rooms occupy third to thirty-fifth floors of the tower. The thirty-sixth floor is a revolving restaurant and there is a heliport on top of the roof. The eleven-storey carpark is at the north-west, separating from the main building, while the swimming pool is at the south-west. An extension project finished in 1992, which includes the expansion of staff canteen and function rooms at level one and two of the towers and the addition of a theatre on top of the swimming pool.
Part of the drawings contain title block which shows the information of the related parties for the project. Palmer & Turner (P&T Group) acted as the architects and consulting engineers, Rankine & Hill (Rankine & Hill Singapore Private Limited) as the consulting mechanical and electrical engineers, Dale Keller & Associates Limited as the interior designers, and Levett and Bailey (Rider Levett Bucknall) as the chartered quantity surveyors.
