Drawings and photographic materials, Hong Kong Arts Centre (1974–1976), Harbour Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong 香港灣仔港灣道香港藝術中心(1974至1976年)繪圖及影像資料

This series consists of eighty-three drawings, two transparencies, and fifty-two slides for Hong Kong Arts Centre project. The building was completed in 1977 on Harbour Road. It was designed by Tao Ho and awarded the Hong Kong Institute of Architects Silver Medal in 1978.

Hong Kong Arts Centre has provided an open space for arts since when those were rare in Hong Kong in the 1970s. The nineteen storeys tall multi-functional building contains theatres, exhibition galleries, artists’ studio, office spaces for cultural organisations and public area. The unique triangular structure added aesthetics value to the building itself. The Bauhaus concept of “forms follow function” is conveyed in the design. The spiral staircase connecting different spaces within the building, cooperates with light pits to capture maximal nature light. The slides show the exposed yellow air-conditioning pipes at the centre of the pit that was now dismantled.

Palmer & Turner project number: 1097.
