The Hongkong Hotel Company operated The Repulse Bay Hotel between 1920 and 1982, providing travellers with the opportunity to enjoy the waters of Repulse Bay along with the luxurious amenities of a nearby hotel. In 1923, it acquired The Shanghai Hotels, Limited, becoming The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels Limited. The hotel group managed The Peninsula Hotel, which opened in 1928, and The Hongkong Hotel (now known as Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel), which opened in 1969. The Peninsula Hotel housed a discotheque called The Scene, as well as renowned restaurants like Gaddi’s and Chesa. The Hongkong Hotel had bars and restaurants including the Bauhinia Room, Tai Pan Grill, Gun Bar, Poolside Lounge, Bagatelle, and Lotus Moon.

Between the 1960s and 1970s, Graphic Communication Limited designed the visual identity for The Repulse Bay Hotel, The Peninsula Hotel, and The Hongkong Hotel. This series includes archival materials of graphic design for The Peninsula Hotels group, including The Peninsula Hong Kong, its first discotheque, The Scene, and the Peak Tower’s restaurants. The collection includes booklets, cards, envelopes, leaflets, menus, menu holders, stickers, luggage tags, process materials, test prints, and more, dating from the 1960s to the 1970s.
