Yayoi Kusama at the Grand Stair
Featuring three short moving image works—a time lapse video, documentation of a music performance, and an artist interview—this programme gives visitors a different perspective on Kusama’s work. In a time lapse video, Kusama brings her polka dots to the Philip Johnson–designed Glass House in the United States, transforming the modernist architectural landmark into a different 'infinity mirror room’ experience. Up next, musicians Ryuichi Sakamoto and Alva Noto perform in this wonderous space, creating a unique synthesis of music, visual art, and architecture. The programme concludes with an interview in which Kusama shares her life experiences and creative process, contemplating the meaning behind her polka dots.
The screening, which complements Special Exhibition Yayoi Kusama: 1945 to Now, consists of the following works: Dots Obsession, Glass: Ryuichi Sakamoto, Yayoi Kusama & Alva Noto and YAYOI KUSAMA—Earth is a polka dot.
