E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
Join Elliott in an otherworldly adventure beyond imagination in the beloved classic E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial. Set in the suburbs of California, ten-year-old Elliott Taylor encounters an extraterrestrial, E.T., who is accidentally left behind on earth after collecting plant specimens. He befriends the curious and compassionate Elliott, forming an unbreakable bond. As they navigate the challenges of keeping E.T.'s presence a secret, Elliott, along with his group of friends, embarks on a mission to help E.T. return home.
Produced and directed by Steven Spielberg, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial mirrors Spielberg’s own childhood with an imaginary friend he created after his parents' divorce. The film premiered as the closing film of the Cannes Film Festival in 1982. The film was a blockbuster, surpassing Star Wars to become, at the time, the highest-grossing film—a record only surpassed in 1993 by Spielberg’s own Jurassic Park. The film received multiple accolades from the Academy Awards, British Academy Film Awards, and Golden Globe Awards, among others.
The screening on 16 March 2024 will be conducted in a relaxed fashion where lights will remain half-dimmed, and the volume will be lowered for younger children’s comfort.
