101 Dalmatians

101 Dalmatians (1996) is a live action remake of the 1961 Walt Disney animated classic. The film tells the story of two dog lovers in London who are brought together by their beloved pet dalmatians, which go on to form a family of 15 puppies. Spotting an opportunity, the evil fashion designer Cruella de Vil (Glenn Close) wants to make a coat out of dalmatian fur, but when she fails to persuade the owners to sell their puppies, she takes matters into her own hands.

While none of the animal characters speak—unlike in the 1961 film—the dogs are nevertheless brought to life through a combination of captivating live action and 3D animation. Even more memorable is Glenn Close's mesmerising performance and unparalleled talent, which along with her elaborate costumes and jaw-dropping looks, showcase one of Disney’s most iconic villains. The film was a hit with audiences of all ages and was followed by the sequel 102 Dalmatians (2000), as well as the spinoff Cruella (2021).
