Ayoung Kim:
Speculations and Tales

Ayoung Kim is a Seoul-based multidisciplinary artist, whose practice engages a diverse range of mediums, including video, virtual reality, installation, sound, and performance. ‘Speculations and Tales’ highlights a selection of her speculative short videos from the past decade, where she combines video, found footage, CGI, and 3D-scanned visuals into captivating whirlwinds of imagery and thought-provoking fictitious narratives. Throughout these videos, Kim delves into complex concepts, such as technological impact and accelerationism; the social, cultural, and political landscape of Korea; and the exploration of untold stories of neglected individuals. Her work invites viewers to reflect on the intersections of technology, nature, and human experiences.

The screening will be followed by a post-screening talk in English, via video call, where Ayoung Kim will be in conversation with M+ Moving Image Assistant Curator Savannah Shiu.
